With the Godwins out of town and with the house empty for a few days, it was time for my Star Wars marathon. I hadn’t seen the originals in at least fifteen years and I hadn’t seen the first three since a random summer a few years ago when Shiri was updating me on the newer episodes. I had the whole thing planned out as to how long it would take and how much time I’d have to allot in order tot not start too late or be up for all hours of the night. Even though I had been up late the night before celebrating Jon’s Dirty Thirty, I was up by 8:00 and settled on the couch for the first episode. Actually, that was a bit of a lie, since I decided to work out during the first episode. The second episode was just LONG. Like really long. But I had seen it before, so I wasn’t totally lost. And then the third episode. Oy. SO LONG and SUCH BAD ACTING. And the dialogue. The dialogue! George Lucas can write a good story but can’t write great dialogue. And luckily, Shiri was texting with me and remind me about what was going on. It was very helpful. And Ewan McGregor is always magical. Always.

In between the first group and the second group, I went out for a run because I had been doing a LOT of sitting. Then it was time for the originals. So much better and let’s be really, I hadn’t seen those in ages. Like, maybe since we were in Alberquerque with the Glass family. I live-tweeted Episode 4 so if you want to know what my thoughts were, please check out my twitter feed. @mibeclin. It’s really hopping over there. Please read that with heavy sarcasm. Amanda and Trent joined me for Episode 5, and it was lovely to have the company and by the time I got to Episode 6, I was ready for it to be over. However, the party at the end, including when Luke sees the visions of Obi-Wan and Anakin, and Yoda, was pretty great.

In conclusion, I’m glad that I did this. It was better than rewatching Harry Potter, which I had just done, and not all of the new Hobbit movies were out yet, so I thought that my choice was a good one. I’m not sure the next time I’ll watch any Star Wars so I’m glad that I did it!
